Which one of the following shows highest magnetic moment?
Text Solution
Verified by ExpertsThe correct answer is:
A
Cr3+ + e—
Cr2+, EQ = – 0.41 volts and Mn3+ + e—
Mn2+ , EQ = + 1.51 volts
This shows that Cr2+ is unstable and has a tendency to acquire more stable Cr3+ state by acting as a reducing agent. On the other hand Mn3+ is unstable and is reduced to more stable Mn2+ state.
